Word Processing (LibreOffice Writer)

 Word Processing

  • Word processing software is an application software.

  • It is used for the creation of text-based documents.

  • It is a software package that process textual matter and creates organized documents

  • It is used to format, and give a stylish and attractive look to the document.

  • Examples of word processing software are AppleWorks, Microsoft Word, StarOffice,

    WordPerfect, OpenOffice.org Writer, LibreOffice Writer etc.

LibreOffice Writer

  • It is the free and open source word processor component of the LibreOffice software package.

  • It can be used to type letters, newsletters, reports and other documents.

  • It provides tools for editing, formatting and printing of documents.
  • By default, the name of the blank document is Untitled 1.

  • The  file extension of LibreOffice Writer is .odt


Paragraph Indenting

  • Indents are the white space added to the margins.

LibreOffice Writer Mail Merge feature can be proved to be a very useful tool in such a situation.

The steps to create a personalized document for multiple recipients using mail merge functionality.

1.     Prepare data source:

It organizes recipient information in a spreadsheet, database, or other data file. A row typically represents a different recipient. Each column represents different pieces of information, such as names, addresses etc

2.     Create main document: 

    The document serves as the base for merged documents. It includes any static text and placeholders for the dynamic information merge from the data source. For example, It includes placeholders like
<<First Name>>, <<Last Name>>, <<Address>>, etc.

3.      Connect data source: 

    Select "Mail Merge" or "Start Mail Merge" from the menu. Then, choose the type of document to be created (e.g., letters, envelopes, labels)/

4.      Insert merge fields: 

     The data source is connected; one can insert merge fields into the main document. These merge fields correspond to the columns from data source.

5.      Preview  Merge: 

      Before completing the merge, one can preview how the merged documents will look for each recipient. This allows one to check for any errors or formatting issues.

6.      Complete the merge: 

     Once one is satisfied with the preview, one can complete the merge process. It is done by selecting an option like "Finish & Merge" or "Complete Merge" and choosing whether to print the merged documents, save them as separate files, or send them directly as emails.

7.      Review and finalize: 

      After completing the merge, review the merged documents to ensure everything looks correct. Make any necessary adjustments and save or distribute the documents as needed.
